FieldAI published the Big-D case on 2 April 2026. Big-D Construction had been running the robots for more than two years and was moving from pilots to wider use. Robotics and Automation News quoted the company saying every project may end up with some FieldAI tools on it.
Superintendent Bronson Dupaix said his team used to spend five hours on each job walk with handheld cameras, scanners, and lidar, daily and weekly. FieldAI robots now take part of that collection. Big-D’s Orr described a robot walking with the schedule and the model attached, flagging missing work and safety issues and writing them back into the platforms the team already uses.
Chantelle Menlove, a Big-D director in VDC, said the superintendent who had the first robot on his job called her the next week, while she was deploying two more on another site: “When can I have it on my job? What do I need to do?” Demand is coming from the field, not only from the office.
