Caterpillar partners with FieldAI on jobsite autonomy

Caterpillar announced a collaboration with FieldAI on 2 September 2026 from Irving, Texas. Construction Dive and Caterpillar’s own release describe a commercial agreement: Cat’s industry data and machines, FieldAI’s Field Foundation Models, aimed at safety, productivity, and efficiency on jobsites and in plants.

Early applications are inspections, jobsite and facility digital twins, and situational awareness - spotting risk sooner. Jaime Mineart, Caterpillar’s chief technology officer, said the future of the industry will be shaped by how well human expertise is combined with AI-powered machines. FieldAI and Cat are also using NVIDIA accelerated computing and Omniverse to build digital twins from operational data.

Caterpillar said it chose FieldAI after watching the company’s robots work on Cat’s own dynamic sites, where conditions change day to day. Ali Agha, FieldAI’s CEO, said those are the environments the company already runs on, across hundreds of sites. The software does not need GPS, a prior map, or a pre-planned route.
