DPR Santa Clara: 45,000 photos, 100 miles, 500,000 sf

FieldAI published the DPR case study on 19 November 2025. DPR Construction had been running FieldAI on Boston Dynamics Spot robots at a Santa Clara job - a data-center site in the public write-up - for about a year and a half. Senior superintendent Justin Schreiner said the first use was tracking construction through photography.

Numbers from that phase: more than 45,000 photos, more than 100 miles walked, four floors mapped, 125,000 square feet of roofing documented, 500,000 square feet of interiors scanned. Interesting Engineering and FieldAI both carried Schreiner’s quote: the system makes the team better at what they do, documents more effectively, and takes mundane tasks off the plate so people can focus on detailed, critical work.

Before the robots, DPR engineers walked hundreds of thousands of square feet with cameras. Now a mission is set on a dashboard and the robot walks the site, often off-hours, so fresh inspection data is waiting in the morning. FieldAI and later coverage put inspection and documentation time down more than 90 percent against the manual walk. DPR began the partnership in 2024.
