FieldAI’s UK debut. First trial: the Passivhaus refurbishment of LSE’s 35 Lincoln’s Inn Fields. 360 photos, point clouds, safety patrols, and model-to-site checks.
McLaren Construction announced a partnership with FieldAI in July 2026, reported by Global Construction Review, Building, and Construction Digital. It is FieldAI’s first UK contractor. The company already had hundreds of sites in Europe, Asia, and North America.
McLaren tested a Boston Dynamics Spot running FieldAI software on the Passivhaus refurbishment of the London School of Economics building at 35 Lincoln’s Inn Fields. Trials started the previous December. The robots will capture 360-degree site imagery (into OpenSpace), generate point clouds (into Naska for model-to-site deviation), and run safety and quality patrols.
Tom Gothard, McLaren’s senior digital implementation manager, told Digital Construction Plus the point of autonomy was so the contractor’s own people would not have to manage the robots day to day. Adam Nicholson, group pre-construction director, said the machines navigate stairs, doors, and other obstacles while working with the human crews. The two firms will also work through UK regulatory and data-security requirements as the fleet grows.
